Hi, my name is Erin and I have been working and learning with TTF as a medical volunteer since February 2009.  I recently graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Human Biology and an ambition to enter medical school.  My interests in infectious disease and international health have led me to Zambia on a gap-year of volunteering.  I spend my time here in Lusaka assisting the team, mainly our chief clinical officer, Ntula.  As a pre-medical student, working hands-on with patients is an ideal learning experience.  But in addition to learning, I have been lucky enough to experience the joy of making a difference in our patients’ overall well being.

I have also helped implement a journal library consisting of current medical papers for use in the TTF clinic.  My goal in maintaining the library is to keep the team up-to-date on newly published research of relevant issues in HIV/AIDS, tropical medicine, social welfare, and program management.  Overall, TTF has given me an invaluable experience.  Although individual cases can be dispiriting, I always end the day with a sense of hope and encouragement.
